Media Photography Academy

Over the Summer I had the honor of being taught photography by a great family friend and incredible photographer- David Sacks.

(Look at us, all young and stuff.)
Our families have enjoyed some lovely beach trips to LBI together. They're great memories, full of good food, music, long games of settlers and lots of conversation and laughing... All good stuff. They're great friends. Also, his mom is Sharon Sacks and we love Sharon. :)

David asked if Abbie and I would like to take the class and we were thrilled to be a part of it. We learned a lot and really enjoyed doing it together. I gained a much greater understanding of photography in history- as well as the practical fundamentals to good picture taking- shutter speed, ISO, aperature, working with lighting- we talked a lot about pre-visualizing a photo through the editing process. Each week we had assignments which were critiqued in class. Honestly my favorite part of the class. It definitely stretched my creativity.

The two most simple things he taught us were also what he said is most defining to growing as a photographer.

1. Look at a lot of good photographs.

2. Take a lot of photos.

Not too complicated.

One assignment was to take a subject and approach it in 10 different ways. I used this sword. Not gonna lie, I looked pretty cool carrying it around.

This was an amazing opportunity! If you haven't seen any of David's work you should absolutely check it out at Davidsacks.com and also here. Thanks David :)
